PrestaShop module to regenerate thumbnails in batches

Free module to regenerate thumbnails in PrestaShop in batches.

It does what PrestaShop's «Regenerate thumbnails» button does, in jpg, WebP and AVIF, but without being cut off on shops with many images, with a progress bar and a live log.

Compatible with:
  • PS 1.7
  • PS 8
  • PS 9

PrestaShop Expert, 3 stars level

Developed and maintained by Kebes, a PrestaShop Expert level 3 agency with more than 15 years developing for PrestaShop.

With this module you can regenerate PrestaShop thumbnails for products, categories, brands, suppliers and stores without the process stopping halfway. It is free and tested on PrestaShop 9.2.

The problem: PrestaShop's regeneration gets cut off

After changing theme, enabling WebP or AVIF or editing image sizes, thumbnails must be regenerated. PrestaShop's button does it all in a single request: on a shop with many images it hits the server's execution time limit, stops and does not tell you where it was.

How it solves it

The module works in batches of a few seconds. Each batch regenerates a few images and reports progress, so it never reaches the server limit, whether the shop has a hundred products or a hundred thousand.

Features

  • The same rules as PrestaShop: it uses your version's logic, not its own. Same file names and same sizes.
  • jpg, WebP and AVIF: it generates the formats ticked in Design > Image settings.
  • Products, categories, brands, suppliers and stores, together or separately, and all sizes or a single one.
  • Only creates missing thumbnails, or deletes and recreates all of them if you tick it.
  • Also creates the «no picture» images for each language and applies your watermark module.
  • Progress bar per image kind and live log.
  • Pause, cancel and resume, even after closing or reloading the page.
  • Safe: one batch at a time and only from the back office, with your admin session.

Compatibility

Tested on PrestaShop 9.2. No overrides, no core changes.

Installation

Upload the ZIP from Modules > Module Manager, click «Configure», tick the images to regenerate and click «Regenerate».

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to delete the thumbnails first?

No. By default it only creates the missing ones, which is what you need after enabling WebP or AVIF. Tick it only if you changed image sizes.

What happens if I close the page halfway?

Progress is saved. When you come back, the module offers to resume where you left off.

Does it optimize or shrink images?

No, it only regenerates thumbnails from the originals. To reduce the weight of the originals use VEO Heavy Images.

Changelog

0.2.1 – 2026-10-20

  • `.htaccess` in the module folder that stops its PHP files from being opened directly.
  • Code reviewed with the official PrestaShop validator (formatting, headers and good practices). No change in how it works.

0.2.0 – 2026-10-18

New: new-version notice on the module configuration page; it checks veomod.com once a day at most, without sending any data about the shop, and can be turned off.
New: «More from Veo» block at the bottom of the configuration page with PrestaShield, Kebes and related modules.

0.1.0 – 2026-10-17

New: module release. Batch regeneration with PrestaShop's own logic (jpg, WebP and AVIF), progress bar, live log, pause, cancel and resume.
